James Moran, obituary
ROCKPORT — James R. Moran, 93, died peacefully Dec. 13, 2015, at Sussman House in Rockport.
Born in Rockland on Nov. 1, 1922, he was the son of James H. and Helen Ranlett Moran. After moving with his parents to Massachusetts, he was a graduate of Hyde Park High School, Class of 1940.
On Oct. 16, 1944, he entered the United States Navy, where he served until Feb. 10, 1946. While serving with the Navy, James was assigned to the Office of Strategic Services. He continued with that organization after discharge from active duty. He served with the Foreign Service in China, Manchuria, Bulgaria, France, Haiti and Iraq, retiring as a support officer from the Central Intelligence Agency in the late 1960s.
At that time, he returned to his home in Rockport, where he lived a quiet life caring for his mother until her death. Animals were an important part of his life and he enjoyed many pets over the years. He volunteered with the animal shelter and enjoyed following horse races.
In earlier years, he attended St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Rockland.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Donald Moran. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Casey Moran and Michael Moran, both of Exeter, N.H., James Moran of Bangor, Mary Ann Morse of Wilton, N.H., Maureen Ouellet of Exeter, N.H., and Kathleen Lauchlan of Hampton Falls, N.H.; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A celebration of Jame’s life will be held Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 10 a.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland, with interment to follow at Achorn Cemetery. The Rev. Frank Semancik will officiate.
