Philip ‘Chet’ Stone, obituary
OWLS HEAD – Phillip Chester “Chet” Stone, 93, died Nov. 24, 2015, at Windward Gardens in Camden.
Born in Hampton, N.Y., on May 4, 1922, he was the son of Phillip W. and Jessie E. Wilson Stone. He attended several schools and graduated from Abington High School in Abington, Mass.
Chet enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September of 1942, and while stationed in Rockland, he met the woman he would marry, Freda E. Woodman. They were married May 4, 1943.
After his discharge from the Navy, Chet returned to Maine, where he and his wife made their home in Owls Head all their married lives. Freda died in June of 2014.
Chet worked 42 years in Rocklands' seafood processing industry, first with General Foods, then Birdseye, ultimately retiring from National Seafood Products.
He enjoyed raising and showing foxhounds. Chet was a past president of the Knox County Foxhound Club and a member of the Brunswick Fox & Fur Club; past president of the Knox County Outboard Association and a member of the Maine Outboard Racing Association.
In earlier years, he played semi-pro football for the Belfast Merchants and played softball with his plant's team.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. Interment will follow in Ash Point Cemetery in Owls Head.
