Man uses his face to smash cruiser window, resists arrest
ROCKLAND – A Thomaston man, who was under the influence of alcohol, smashed out the back window of a police cruiser with his face Aug. 7 after a police officer attempted to perform a field sobriety test.
Rockland Police officers Scott Redmun and Jacob Shirey arrested Kevin Park, 21, of Thomaston, and charged him with aggravated criminal trespass, operating under the influence, unauthorized use of property, criminal mischief, and refusing to submit to arrest. Park made his initial court appearance Aug. 7 and bail was set at $500 cash.
According to court documents, Redmun and Shirey responded to a call at a Brewster Street residence from a woman who told officers Park was drunk, and that she did not want him in her home. The officers found Park passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with the keys in the ignition and an open container of alcohol.
Park told police he was sober while driving and that he had permission from another person to use the vehicle which was denied by the owner of the car. He also damaged the windshield in the vehicle.
When Park exited the vehicle, he smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet. He became uncooperative and aggressive when officers asked him how much he had to drink, documents said. The officers then asked Park to sit on the bumper of the cruiser so they could perform a field sobriety test and he turned his head and used his face to smash out the cruiser’s back window, according to the police report.
Park had a lot of blood on his face and on the front side of this clothing and was evaluated by Rockland EMS after police subdued him on the ground. He was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center for treatment.
Park will make his next court appearance Oct. 2 for a dispositional conference.
