Belfast churches welcome public to Easter celebrations
BELFAST — The First Church in Belfast, UCC invites everyone to join the services of Holy Week and Easter.
On Palm Sunday, the day remembering Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem the last week of his life, a service will be held March 29 during the regular 10 a.m. worship time. All will receive palms and a welcoming.
Maundy Thursday is the day of remembering the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples.
There will be an evening service at 6 p.m. on April 2 in the upper room of the First Church Fellowship Hall which will include a light soup and bread supper (an elevator is available for those who need it).
On Good Friday, April 3 the sanctuary will be open from noon to 3 p.m. for prayer and meditation and then an ecumenical Good Friday service will be held at the First Baptist Church (95 High St.) at 6 p.m.
Easter arrives on April 5 beginning with the Easter Sunrise service at the Belfast Boathouse at 6 a.m., followed by a hearty Easter Breakfast at the First Church Fellowship Hall (55 Spring St. entrance).
The First Church Easter celebration will be at 10 a.m., as the resurrection is lifted up with music.
The service is followed by a time of Easter basket fun for the kids with Pastor Kate in the parlor.
The First Church, located at 104 Church St. with ADA accessible entrances at 8 Court St. and 55 Spring St., is an Open and Affirming Congregation and invites everyone to come and share in this Easter.
