Owls Head man hit with seven charges in Rockland hit-and-run
ROCKLAND – Rockland Police arrested and charged a 28-year-old Owls Head man in connection with the Monday morning hit-and-run crash that injured two Rockland public works employees.
Sgt. Don Finnegan said Friday that Ryan Gamage, 28, of Owls Head, was arrested on Friday morning and charged with operating after habitual offender revocation, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, failing to report a crash by the quickest means, violating conditions of release, filing a false police report, operating a vehicle without liability insurance and abandoning a vehicle on a public way.
According to police, Gamage fled the scene Monday after the van he was driving rear-ended a stopped public works vehicle. The two city employees were collecting trash near the Maine State Ferry Terminal in Rockland when the crash occurred.
The van that Gamage was operating was later reported stolen from Owls Head.
The two city employees were treated at Pen Bay Medical Center for neck and back pain and later released. Rockland police have not released the names of the injured men.
Gamage is currently being held at the Knox County jail.
Officer Jacob Shirey was the lead investigating officer. He was assisted by other officers of the Rockland Police Department and the Maine State Police.
