Deputy charges Brooks man with Wood Shed theft
On Saturday, March 7, a Waldo County Sheriff’s deputy issued a summons to a Brooks man for allegedly taking firewood from the wood yard of a nonprofit that serves to help provide firewood to families in need in Waldo County.
On Feb. 23, the Waldo County Wood Shed, a local nonprofit, reported the theft of firewood from its facility in Waldo. Information provided by a concerned citizen led deputies to focus the investigation onto one suspect, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office in Belfast.
“A black truck with unique characteristics was involved in the incident,” the office reported March 9, in a news release.
Deputy Jonathan Shaw was the primary investigator in the case and was assisted by other deputies. On March 7, Deputy Daniel Thompson was on patrol when he observed the suspect truck and its owner James Bohan, 54, of Brooks.
“Thompson confronted Bohan about the theft of firewood and Mr. Bohan admitted that he was the person who had taken the firewood from the facility,” the release said.
Bohan was arrested for Violation of Conditions of Release and issued a summons for the theft of firewood. He was taken to the Waldo County Correctional Center and later released on $150 cash bail.
