Putting the air back into the Belfast skate park
An informational meeting on restarting the Belfast Skatepark Committee will be held this evening, 6:30 p.m., at the Belfast City Hall. All are invited to attend, and discuss how to reenergize and repair the Belfast Skatepark.
The Skatepark is falling down, according to those who helped to create and build it. The Skatepark is municipally-owned, but little fundraising has been done over the past several years to keep it up to par.
“Repairs have been made over the past years, and we have extended the life of it, but, soon it will need more than just a repair,” said John Cronin, lead organizer of the effort to revamp the park. “So with the structural end of the skatepark in sight, we are rallying people to revitalize the Belfast Skatepark Committee that once made it possible. You are invited to join with this committee and discuss all the issues at hand; location, cost, design, rules, funding, etc.”
A lifelong skater, Cronin is hoping the committee, teaming up with the city of Belfast, can make the skateboard park into a “beautiful destination that will incorporate modern landscape architecture, welcoming for beginners and extreme sports enthusiasts.”
