State Police arrest couple in Belfast for China burglaries
BELFAST — Maine State Police this week arrested a transient couple who allegedly burglarized and extensively damaged a home in China. The arrests came about after tracking them around the Midcoast and eventually locating them a motel in Belfast, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety.
Jamee D. Lemons, 27, was charged with burglary. She also had an outstanding warrant out of Tennessee and was on probation from that state. Lemons' boyfriend, Samuel Cook, 32, was charged with two separate burglaries, as well as theft by unauthorized taking and aggravated criminal mischief.
Cook had an outstanding warrant out of Waldo County.
According to a press release, Lemons and Cook broke into a home on Lakeview Drive on China Lake, damaging the inside while they stayed there for several day.
The damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
Cook also allegedly admitted to breaking in to a separate residence, also on China Lake, and stealing items from that home.
While attempting to find the couple, troopers were led to the Brunswick area, where the couple had both obtained jobs for a short while at fast food restuarants. They were then tracked to the motel in Belfast, where they were arrested.
Both were transported to Kennebec County Jail. No information on bail was furnished.
