WARREN — Knox County Sheriff’s deputies have identified Alison Low, 38, of Warren, as the driver of a car killed in a crash in Warren on Route 1 earlier this morning.

Chief Deputy Tim Carroll said in a press release Thursday afternoon that Low was driving a 2003 Subaru Forester around 7:30 a.m., March 20, and traveling south, near Ande’s Variety and Depot Road, when she collided head-on with a 1997 GMC Sierra pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck, Samuel Simmons, 18, of Spruce Head, was traveling north on Route 1 at the time of the crash.

Two passengers in Low’s car, Dustin Kimball, 18, of Warren, and Olivia Blachet, 18, of Waldoboro, are in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to Carroll. Simmons was the sole occupant of the pickup truck, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Deputy Paul Pinkham is investigating the cause of the crash, with assistance from Rockland Police Sgt. Ken Smith and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Murphy.

“For an unknown reason, Simmons crossed the center line and struck Low head-on,” wrote Carroll, in an email sent at 4:45 p.m, March 20.

Carroll said that Waldoboro EMS, Warren EMS and Thomaston EMS responded to the scene, along with the Warren Fire Department.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office was delayed until just after 2:15 p.m. in publicly releasing the names of the victims of the crash pending family notifications.
