Megunticook Rowing hosts Annual Dirigo Sprints, May 24
CAMDEN — Megunticook Rowing will host the Dirigo Sprints on Saturday, May 24, on Megunticook Lake. Racing starts at 8:30 a.m. Last race is at 12:15 p.m.
This event began several years ago to bring as many rowing teams together to battle it out on the water for the title and trophy. Defending champions Maine Coast Rowing Association of Brunswick will be defending their title. Waynflete of Portland and Neponset Rowing Club from Milton, Massachusetts will also participate.
These high school rowers have been training hard all spring only to be foiled by Mother Nature the past two weekends for regattas scheduled on the Merrimack River in Lowell, Massachusetts. So it all comes down to this Saturday. Fifteen events, fifty-one entries from four teams will compete for the Dirigo Sprints trophy. It’s a 1500 meter sprint for events in doubles, quads, fours, and eights.
"Great viewing from RT52 boat launch," said Marnie Read, in a news release. "Bring your cowbells and fog horns to show your support."
