Tyler M. Patterson, Sr., obituary
OWLS HEAD — Tyler M. Patterson, Sr., 33, beloved son, husband, father, coach and friend, left this world far too soon on Friday, May 2, 2025, following an unexpected medical event.
Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on October 9, 1991, Tyler was the cherished son of Keith Patterson and Michelle Terry. His formative years were spent in Oakland, California, where his father was stationed with the Army. Tyler's roots in the Rockland community were established when he started the fifth grade, culminating in his graduation from Rockland District High School in 2009.
Tyler's natural leadership and athletic prowess earned him a coveted recruitment to the University of Maine at Orono's football program. While pursuing his degree in Sports Journalism, he dedicated himself to the sport he loved, playing all four years of his college career. One of his proudest achievements was being a member of the 2013 CAA Championship Team. That same year, Tyler earned his Bachelor's degree, setting the foundation for his future successes.
Returning to his beloved coastal community after college, Tyler began a promising career at Bank of America. It was there that fate intervened when he met fellow employee Jennifer Dakin. Their connection was immediate and profound. After nurturing their relationship since 2015, Tyler and Jen celebrated their love by exchanging vows in January of 2022, beginning what was meant to be a lifetime of shared dreams and adventures.
Most recently, Tyler thrived as the General Manager at Key Ford in Rockland. His genuine approach to business, unwavering integrity, and warm personality allowed him to excel professionally while forming meaningful connections with colleagues and customers alike. Tyler transformed what could have been routine business transactions into opportunities to make friends and build community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tyler's greatest joy and legacy are his family. He embraced fatherhood with boundless enthusiasm. His laughter, kindness, and steadfast presence touched countless lives throughout the midcoast region.
Though his time with us was tragically brief, Tyler lived each day with purpose and passion. His vibrant spirit, generous heart, and enduring love for his family will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Tyler was a beloved and dedicated presence in the Oceanside community, where he poured his heart and soul into coaching Football, JV Baseball, and Basketball. His commitment to athletics wasn't just about the game—it was about mentoring young people and building character through sport. Whenever a team needed help, Tyler was there, offering his time and expertise generously.
One of his greatest joys was refereeing basketball games alongside his father, creating memories and a legacy that spanned generations.
Tyler possessed a larger-than-life personality that defied simple description. The phrases often used to describe him—that his laugh was contagious, his smile could light up a room, his booming voice commanded attention—were not mere clichés but genuine truths recognized by all who knew him. His presence was a force of nature that brought warmth and energy wherever he went.
At his core, Tyler was a protector with a profound capacity for empathy. He had an instinctive ability to sense when others were suffering and would move mountains to alleviate their pain. His protective nature extended to everyone in his circle, as he consistently prioritized the wellbeing of others above his own comfort.
Above all else, Tyler's children were his greatest pride and joy, the center of his universe. Nothing brought him more happiness than the time spent with them, creating memories that will live on in their hearts forever. His legacy of love, protection, and joyful spirit will continue through them.
Tyler's absence leaves an unfillable void, but his impact on our community and in our hearts remains eternal. Predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Evelyn and Alverse Patterson in 2005; a step-sister, Tambra Arnold in 2022; Tyler is survived by his father, Keith Paterson and his wife Carol Ann of Rockland; his mother, Michelle Terry of Orlando, Florida; his wife, Jennifer Patterson; his sons, Tyler M. ‘TJ’ Patterson, Jr., Blu Patterson, all of Owls Head; his siblings, Anthony Terry, Dana Blocker, both of Orlando, Isaiah Patterson of Sanford; a step-brother, Mike Arnold of Rockland; his sister-in-law Jessica ‘Sissy’ Derby and her husband Josh and their children Colby and Baby Cameron all of Palermo.
