Five Town CSD provided the following course descriptions:

Cooking Vegetarian Indian Food with Dee Patel of Namaste Indian Food One night! Tuesday, April 8, 5:30 – 8:30 PM Location: Camden Hills Regional High School. Saag Paneer is a flavorful, well-loved vegetarian dish rich in calcium and folate from spinach—and it’s gluten free! Class will also make paratha (bread) and delicious basmati rice. Registration fee includes all ingredients. Bring an appetite and containers for leftovers. Course fee: $49. Pre-register online or call 236-7803.

Block Printing with Patrick Ralls One night, Wednesday, April 9, 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Location: Camden Hills Regional High School, Rockport Explore this unique and versatile medium used for centuries as a means of pattern making and textile design. In this class you will create an original block print of your own! You will learn how to transfer your vision onto a carving medium, carve the block, and then use it to print a repetitive, decorative design. Sharp carving tools will be provided. Bring ideas of what you might like to carve, a little patience, and a lot of creativity! We will be working on carving blocks that are 4" x 6". Course fee of $75 includes all materials. Glass Beadmaking at the Torch Two separate afternoon sessions: April 14 OR April 16, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM Location: Mainely Gallery, Belfast. An introduction to glass beadmaking with live demonstrations, examples, and engaging discussions of glass in art history, plus time spent on the torch trying this ancient and fun art form yourself! You will get individualized and group instruction on how to make beads and pendants of your own design. This is table-top glassblowing for beginners. You will leave class with several unique creations! Course fee $75 (includes all materials). Register online or call 236-7803.

Gourd Bowl with Pine Needle Rim with Jessica Steele One night, Wednesday, April 16, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Location: Camden Hills Regional High School, Rockport. Make a gourd basket! Perfect for a gift or to keep for yourself. Gourds will be pre-cut. Students will need to clean gourds, sand, and drill holes. Then we will sew white pine needles to the rim. You will be able to pick from several stains for a finish. Gourds are about 4-5” in diameter. During this class, we will also go over the basics of making pine needle baskets. This is another great class to learn a skill for life. No handouts: be prepared to take notes. Course fee $65. Register online or call 236-7803.

Fused Glass One afternoon session: Monday, April 28, 1:00 PM-4:00 PM Location: Mainely Gallery, Belfast. This beginner’s skills class will focus on making fused glass objects—melting glass into planned art pictures, designs, and shapes. From the ground level up, students will build skills including creating your own design for your project object, glass materials manipulation, and basic kiln-program understanding necessary to learn the fine-tuning art of kilnwork. Italian for Beginners Five-week course starts Tuesday, April 29, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Location: Camden Hills Regional High School, Rockport Ciao a tutti! Retired university professor, Francis Boscoe will start on your way to fluency, focusing on proper pronunciation, essential phrases, and the many English and Italian words that share a common Latin origin. QIGONG - Mindful Movement with Natural Breathing Six-week course starts Wednesday, April 30, 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Location: Inner Works Healing Arts Center, Rockland. Ancient practices of improved breathing in combination with gentle movement, proven to enhance people’s health for millennia. Course fee $59 ($44.25 for students 65 and older). Embroidery: Personal Best Six-week course starts Wednesday, April 30, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Location: Camden Hills Regional High School, Rockport This comprehensive workshop is designed to give participants excellent skills in embroidery. Students will develop a working vocabulary of both plain and fancy stitches with variations, including the stem stitch, chain stitch, split stitch, French knot, blanket and buttonhole, couching, feather and fly stitch. Illustrated instructions will be provided and students will create a personal sample book of stitches. Students are encouraged to share ideas as well as any heirloom textiles they may have; workshop will support students to develop skills specific to personal projects. Linen fabric, wool and cotton embroidery threads, and best needles will be provided. Course fee $105 ($78.75 for students 65 and older). Register online or call 236-7803.
