MVHS announces 2025 DAR Good Citizens award recipient
The Class of 2025 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award at Medomak Valley High School has been presented to Kelsey Michaela Payson. Payson is the daughter of Jeff and Amanda Payson, of Waldoboro, and Jennifer Molloy, of Bowdoinham.
The Daughters of the American Revolution is an organization with a “deeply rich history while also being truly relevant in today’s world. More than 1,000,000 women have joined the organization since it was founded over 125 years ago. They became members to honor their heritage as well as make a difference in their communities across the country and the world” (DAR Website).
The organization sponsors a Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest recognizing high school seniors who demonstrate these qualities: Good Citizenship, Dependability, Service, Leadership, and Patriotism.
The award was created in 1934 and is open to students in accredited public or private schools.
At Medomak Valley High School, one student is chosen by the leadership team as the recipient of this prestigious award.
The DAR Good Citizen receives a pin, certificate, and wallet recognition card and is invited to include this recognition in all applications to colleges and universities and on their resumes.
In the spring the recipient is invited to a ceremony of recognition.
The DAR Good Citizen is also invited to participate in the scholarship portion of the program, which includes an essay and personal statement. Participation is optional.
