Mid-Coast Tech students make a difference, heading to SkillsUSA with heartfelt community project
ROCKLAND — Three dedicated students from Mid-Coast School of Technology are heading to the SkillsUSA competition with a powerful story of community service and compassion. Their project, focused on supporting the Knox County Homeless Coalition, has not only raised much-needed funds but also brought the community together.
The students, Grace Wesbrock, Haley Blake, and Arden Kondracki, embarked on their project with a simple goal: to make a positive impact. Their journey began with a delicious spaghetti dinner at Warren Community School on November 22, 2024. The event was a resounding success, and any leftover food was thoughtfully donated to The Landing Place in Rockland, ensuring that nothing went to waste.
As the holiday season approached, the students organized a festive bake sale at Christmas by the Sea in Camden on December 6, 2024. The sweet treats were a hit, and the community's generosity shone brightly. To further engage the community, they launched a calendar raffle for the month of February. Local businesses generously donated all the prizes, showcasing the strong spirit of support in the area.
Through their combined efforts, the students raised an approximate $1,800! Every penny of this money was used to purchase essential items requested by the Knox County Homeless Coalition. But their impact didn't stop there. The community also rallied with donations of blankets, socks, hats, jackets, and other much-needed items.
The students' dedication and hard work have not only made a significant difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness but have also earned them a spot at the SkillsUSA competition, where they will share their inspiring project.
