Trekkers to welcome new cohort for Spring 2025
ROCKLAND — Now in its 31st year, Rockland-based Trekkers’ youth mentoring program is inviting seventh graders that live in Rockland, Thomaston, South Thomaston, Cushing, Owls Head, and St. George to apply to join the program. The deadline to apply is February 28. Applications are available online here. Trekkers has scholarships available so that all students may join, regardless of ability to pay dues.
Trekkers’ six-year program begins in seventh grade and continues through high school graduation allowing youth to form meaningful long-term relationships with mentors and peers. Each student joins a team, and together they participate in experiential learning opportunities ranging from after school planning meetings, day or weekend trips, to longer multi-day expeditions. Educational components of the program include community service, outdoor activities like hiking or canoeing, as well as learning about the environment, new cultures, and perspectives. Older high school students learn how to set goals, develop strategies to prepare for life after high school, and have opportunities to practice leadership skills.
"A leader in youth development, Trekkers is proven to help young people thrive," said Trekkers, in a news release.
Through the program, students learn skills in resilience, connection to community, and aspirations for their future. Learn more about Trekkers impact here.
Volunteer Expedition Mentors for the 7th Grade Expedition are also invited to apply. Learn more about this application process and program details by emailing TJ Morris, Principal Program Manager, at tj@trekkers.org or call 594-5095.
