Begin the New Year with BSC 2025 Winterim course offerings
Belfast Senior College is offering a 2025 Winterim semester. Classes on a variety of topics begin on January 20 and will be presented in multiple downtown Belfast venues and via Zoom. Belfast Senior College (BSC) welcomes all who are ages 50 and over to become a member to enjoy this community of learners.
Among the fourteen classes offered, three that encompass the arts include an overview of women photographers in addition to a class for creating a needlework stitch book and another acrylic paint pouring.
In the category of history and current events, three courses offered are on the topics of the history of the Middle East, the 2024 Presidential election and a local history focus on “Sardine Town: Boom, Bust, Revitalizations?”
For those interested in literature, choices include a monthly book group and a distance-learning Zoom class on Maine poets writing about the natural world.
Two classes that provide opportunities to engage in nature and environment topics include a “Winter Gardening Guide” and a Brown Bag Lunch on “Community Composting and Plastic Pollution Solutions.”
A final category of Personal Growth and Health includes a class for women on sleep solutions with a relaxation practice and another class on “Journeying Through the Tarot.”
“Senior College strives to offer classes that appeal to a variety of learning interests and needs," said Denise Pendleton, Belfast Senior College board member, in a news release.
Some classes are hands-on; others are available via Zoom. Some can accommodate as many as forty students, others are limited to fifteen.
Belfast Senior College is an independent and volunteer-powered non-profit organization, now celebrating twenty-three years of programming. For the continued price of $25 for a one-year membership, BSC offers year-round courses and events to nourish creativity, curiosity, and community for all those fifty and over who seek learning opportunities. Members’ spouses and partners of any age also are welcome to join.
Class tuition varies from $30-$35 depending on length of class.
