MidCoast Maine Community Square Dance Party, Oct. 20
MORRILL — The next dance of the MidCoast Maine Community Square Dance Party will be held : Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, at Morrill Community Center (old Honesty Grange 83), 4 North Main Street, Morrill.
Organizers provide the following descriptions for their event:
2:00pm - 3:30pm - Couples Dance Workshop of the Schottische, Schottische variations of Scandanavia, the 1910s & 1920s, and New England Novelty Dances that came from these traditions including "Road to The Isles", "Salty Dog Rag", "Hot Pretzels" and the "Fox Trot" that were all a part of Square & Contra dances in the past around New England. Dances will be led by Chris Ricciotti. All dances will be taught and there will be enough time help everyone enjoy learning them together. Come learn dances so old, they are new again!
4:00pm - 6:30pm: Community Square Dance Party of Southern & Appalachian, Mid Western & New England Squares and a recap of some of the Novelty Dances from the workshop. Music by: Local Montville musicians Emily Jeffries (Fiddle & Guitar) & Maisie Newell (Fiddle) along with Mary Fraser (Fiddle & Guitar). The music will be awesome!! Caller: Chris Ricciotti.
6:30pm Potluck & Sing at the Morrill Community Center. Music Jams are also welcome.
Please bring snack food to share for the dance, or dinner food for the potluck after the dance.
Admission: Sliding Scale of $10-$20. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED. If you contact me ahead of time to volunteer on site, you will get FREE Admission.
