No bird-hunting on Megunticook Lake, Norton Pond until Oct. 1
The 2013 migratory game bird hunting season began Sept. 2 and was the first day of the "Early Season" Canada Geese hunt. The season runs through Sept. 25. Hunters: Megunticook Lake and Norton Pond is closed to hunting until Oct. 1.
“There is no "Early Geese" season/hunting on either body of water,” according to Justin E. Twitchell, Lake Warden for the Megunticook Lake Watershed Association.
For elsewhere, the daily bag limit for Canadian geese in this Zone (South) is 10 with no more then 30 in one’s possession at any time.
On Oct. 1, the regular duck and goose hunting season will begin. According to Twitchell, that is a split season, the first half running until Oct. 19. There is a daily bag limit of geese of two birds, with no more then six in one’s possession. The daily bag limit of ducks is six birds, with no more than four of any one species. There is a possession limit of no more the 18 (no more then 12 of any one species) in one’s possession.
The second season runs from Nov. 4 to Dec. 23. The daily bag limit and possession limit is the same.
“Please remember that Megunticook Lake and Norton Pond is closed to hunting until Oct. 1,” said Twitchell.
