James J. Quinn, obituary
SPRUCE HEAD — James J. Quinn, 88, died peacefully Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Pen Bay Medical Center following a brief period of declining health.
Born in Concord, New Hampshire, January 12, 1936, James was, along with his twin brother, the oldest of six children born to Edward and Jane Chase Quinn. Educated locally he was a graduate of Bishop Brady High School. Following high school, James attended and graduated from Holy Cross University, earning a bachelor’s degree.
He began his life as an adult, working with several of his friends and classmates, helping a local priest build the Fatima Boys Camp. Clearing trees and constructing cabins, they built the camp from the ground up. James stayed on at the camp, becoming its cook, and there he met the love of his life, the young camp nurse, Frances Taylor. The two were married in August of 1959 and made their home together in Vermont and later Massachusetts.
James first career was with J.C. Penney company, and later he worked his way up to an executive position with Honeywell International.
Retiring in 1991, James and Frances moved to Spruce Head, Clark Island, Maine where they resided together until Frances’ passing just five months ago. James loved his home there, the beach, the view, and sharing with his friends and family all that area had to offer. He kept active volunteering his time and curating the Marshall Point Lighthouse. He enjoyed birding and stamp collecting, and rarely missed watching a football or Red Sox
game on TV.
James was a straightforward, down-to-earth individual and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Predeceased by his beloved wife, Frances; his twin brother, Joseph Quinn; James is survived by his children, Jane Quinn of Acton, Massachusetts, Dennis Quinn of Springvale, Maine; three grandchildren, Wesley J. Loughran, Madeleine L. Quinn, Dylan M. Quinn; his siblings, Maryanna Whittemore and her husband Bob of Tennessee, Carole Gavaghan of Lumberton, North Carolina, Patricia Quinn-Ortiz and her husband Milton of Arizona, Robert Quinn of Canterbury, New Hampshire; as well as many nieces and nephews.
