Rockland revaluation first phase to begin end of February
ROCKLAND — The City of Rockland has contracted with Vision Government Solutions for a city-wide revaluation for April 1, 2025. The purpose of the revaluation is to develop accurate assessments based on just value and generating a tax base distributed equitably among Rockland property owners. The first phase—data collection for residential properties only—will be starting the end of February.
There will be a public information meeting on Wednesday, February 21, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers for information on the data collection phase of the revaluation. Total cost of the revaluation for the City of Rockland is $310,000.
Property owners in the first phase of data collection should expect a letter notifying them that Vision will be in the area and will be visiting their property.
Vision Government Solutions employees will be wearing a reflective vest, have photo identification, a letter of authorization from the City Manager and City Assessor, and will have their car registered with the Rockland Police Department.
Data collectors will do an exterior inspection, and request an interior inspection. The interior inspection will be for assessing purposes only and is not an inspection for code violations. If the property owner does not allow the data collector permission to gather the necessary data, the city will be forced to estimate the details of the property using resources and data available, and the owner may not be able to appeal the assessment.
If the property owner is not home at the time the data collector visits the property, the data collector will visit one other time, on a week day from 5 to 8 p.m., or on a Saturday. If the property owner is again unavailable, a notification letter will be mailed to the owner stating that the data collector was not able to make contact, and to request that the property owner contact Vision Government Solutions to arrange an inspection.
If there is a No Trespassing, Beware of Dog, or other potentially unsafe or unwelcoming signs, the data collector will not go on the property, and the owner will receive a letter or a phone call requesting permission.
Please note that Commercial and Industrial property data collection will take place in a different phase.
The city website will be updated as the Revaluation progresses. If you have any questions, please contact the City Assessor’s Office at (207) 594-0303 or emailassessing@rocklandmaine.gov
