Ross was initially charged by Rockland Police with burglary, disorderly conduct, and attempted escape. He is also facing charges additional charges of assault and theft.

According to the police affidavit filed in court by Rockland Police, they were dispatched to Shaws Dec. 2 around 11:35 a.m. for a disorderly complaint of a customer who was physically fighting with a store employee. The Shaws employee who was assaulted told police that he usually works out of the Bangor store in asset protection but was called to Rockland because the store was having issues with Ross allegedly stealing several items daily from the store.

On Dec. 2, the employee said that when he watched Ross on the store’s security video camera he observed him concealing steaks and liquor. He followed the suspect outside and told him that he needed to pay for the items. Ross allegedly became confrontational and punched the employee in the face and tried to attack him several times, according to the court document.

The value of the stolen items was $57.74.

Ross was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport due to his reported high level of intoxication and being suicidal, police said. He attempted to escape from custody while he was waiting to be treated at the emergency room.

He is scheduled to appear in court again March 2.
