ROCKLAND — Adam Lachman has announced his candidacy for Rockland City Council. A resident of Main Street, Lachman has spent his career working to improve the lives and economic prospects of Maine people, he said, in a news release.

Since 2013, Lachman has served as a senior economic advisor to Senator Angus King (I-ME).

“As someone who works to solve problems for Mainers and create economic opportunity, I recognize Rockland’s urgent need to address the challenges of affordability, the need to increase access to housing, and to improve our city’s infrastructure,” he said, in the release. “Since 2019, I have regularly attended council meetings and have a strong grasp of the critical issues facing our City.

“I have listened as residents have voiced concerns during public comment and around town about our need for forward-thinking ideas as it relates to revenue generation. As a city councilor, I would work to support and enhance our revenue strategies and encourage the city council to consider the economic impacts of policy decisions. We need to work tirelessly to reduce the tax burden on homeowners and businesses in our city.

“Rockland faces a crisis – from a lack of housing for young families and seniors, to small businesses who lack workforce, to vulnerable infrastructure. We need a plan to prioritize these issues while protecting Rockland’s history, integrity, and future.”

A graduate of Wesleyan University, Lachman previously owned and operated small businesses in the Midcoast and has a background in hospitality, innovation, and management, he said.

In the U.S. Senate, Lachman has played an instrumental role in writing legislation that is investing in our country’s infrastructure and improving economic competitiveness, and has established successful coalitions in Maine to strengthen the future of the state’s forest, marine, and innovation economy, he said.

In addition to his role in the U.S. Senate, Lachman helps manage Ada’s Kitchen, a family-owned restaurant on Main Street.

“I love Rockland and have lived in Midcoast Maine most of my life, with the past seven years on Main Street,” Lachman said. “Rockland is a community with a rich history, incredible people, and potential. I look forward to bringing my experience to ensure the city remains accessible to all and to support our small businesses, our working waterfront, and to increase opportunity for people of all ages. Helping run Ada’s, I see firsthand the struggles and opportunities our community faces. I hear from my colleagues about these affordability challenges and look forward to bringing pragmatic solutions to Rockland. As city councilor, I will listen to the citizens of Rockland and will work to improve the communication between the council, city employees and the public to ensure we prioritize issues that will strengthen our city. I would be honored to serve Rockland and bring effective listening, transparency, and economic experience to the table.”
