Rockport overwhelmingly elects Denise Munger back to Select Board
ROCKPORT — More than 226 Rockport citizens cast their ballots ahead of Election Day, Aug. 30, making sure they got their votes counted via absentee ballot. And on Aug. 30, with the polls open from noon until 8 p.m., 354 more voters had streamed to the town office all day long and into the night to cast their ballots.
It was a special election with one ballot item: Three candidates vied with each other for one two-year term on the Rockport Select Board. The seat had been vacated in June by former Select Board member John Strand when he left the area.
Ultimately, on Aug. 30, the town elected Denise Munger to fill the seat. Munger had served on the board until June, when Jim Annis won the seat she had occupied.
With this election, more than 574 citizens voted for the candidates. As well, there were two write-in votes for James Ruddy and two empty ballots.
“It was an outstanding turnout for this type of election, a one-ballot item,” said Town Clerk Linda Greenlaw.
“I don’t ever remember a one-ballot item,” said former Town Clerk Brenda Richardson, who volunteered to work the polls at the Rockport Town Office.
“That’s 56 years,” said Greenlaw, adding up the years both she and Richardson had spanned while serving as town clerks.
The candidates on the ballot received the following number of votes:
Ralph Wallace: 119
