ROCKPORT — Three Rockport residents have stepped forward to run for an empty seat on the Rockport Select Board. Their nomination papers are now circulating, and they have until 4 p.m., July 22, to return them to the Rockport Town Clerk.

Dana Jackson, Ralph Wallace and Denise Munger are all collecting signatures now to submit to the Town Clerk. They need at least 25 valid signatures of Rockport residents supporting their run for office.

A special town meeting is to be help Aug. 30, possibly from noon to 8 p.m., where voters can cast ballots at the polls; however, the warrant has yet to be set by the Select Board, so details about voting day may change.

Munger served for three years on the board, and was defeated for a second term at the June 14 town meeting elections by Jim Annis.

On June 15, the town learned that Jack Strand had stepped down from the Select Board for personal reasons; hence, the call for a special election to fill the vacancy on the five-member board.

Current Select Board members are Michelle Hannan, chair; Annis, Mark Kelly and Eric Boucher.
