ROCKLAND — April is National Poetry Month, and libraries, bookstores and other venues are offering special events to honor this. Rockland’s Good Tern Café and Hole In The Wall Bagel Shop Galleries are planning a mail-in exhibition of poetry and art this year since the past eight pre-pandemic annual exhibitions and related events were so well received, according to Good Tern, in a news release. The submission deadline is March 25, and the exhibition will run for the month of April in both venues.

Anyone of any age who is interested to submit a piece or two or more for Poetry & Art IX, A Mail Art Exhibition is invited to do so. In the past, The Good Tern received entries from many in the Midcoast area as well as from South Carolina, Florida, the West Coast, the UK, Germany, Australia, and western Canada.
 
According to the Good Tern, the curator for the special exhibition is local artist Lois Anne, who notes, “Poetry, visual art, poems inspired by sculptures, visual art about poetry, drawings inspired by poetry, poems by artists, visual art by poets—anything that fits on a postcard of any size. There are so many possibilities that this exhibition should be quite exciting!”

Submission Guidelines are as follows:

1 - Make a poem, painting, drawing, collage, or other creation on a postcard [or put in an envelope] relating however loosely to the theme of poetry & art.
2 - Entries may be signed or anonymous.
3 - Entries must be postmarked by March 25, 2022.
4 - Send to: Lois Anne, Curator of Poetry & Art, PO Box 1661, Rockland ME 04841.

For three weeks after the exhibition closes, the pieces will be available for pick-up at the Good Tern, or mailed out if an SASE has been enclosed with the entry.

The Good Tern Coop and Café at 750 Main Street in Rockland is open Monday through Friday 8AM to 7PM, Saturday 9AM to 7PM, and Sunday 9AM to 5PM.
