Marion J. (Grant) Metzger, obituary
CAMDEN formally of NORTH HAVEN — Marion Jane (Grant) Metzger, 94, widow of William H. Metzger, passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the Sussman House in Rockport with her niece by her
side.
Born September 10, 1925 on North Haven to Hubert O. and Gertrude (Thornton) Grant, and known as Jane, she was educated in local schools and in Sarasota, Florida, graduating from North Haven High School as Valedictorian in 1944.
During World War II she resided in Washington, DC working for the Office of Scientific Research and Development. While living in DC she attended classes at the University of Maryland, a local business college.
Following World War II, she was employed by GEICO and in 1970 was elected Assistant Corporate Secretary of GEICO becoming their first female officer serving in that capacity until September 1977 when she retired.
In 1977 her husband, William (Bill), also retired and the two of them moved to Tenants Harbor in the early 80s where she spent many happy years before moving to Camden.
Predeceased by her parents, her husband of 64 years, Bill; three sisters, Shirley Calderwood, Erma Waterman, and Dorothy Brown; and one brother, Hubert T. Grant, all of North Haven.
She is survived by her sister, Ann Waterman and her husband John of North Haven; and 14 nieces and nephews.
A graveside committal for both Marion and Bill will be held Friday, September 4, 2020, at 11:30 a.m., at Fuller Cemetery on North Haven with the Rev. David Macy officiating.
