Oceanside LAX holds Play Day, gets approval for varsity play in 2014

The Oceanside girls Lacrosse team held its Play Day Saturday at Oceanside West on the Sam Pendleton Field, just a couple of days after the team found out the Regional School Unit 13 Board voted unanimously Thursday night to add girls lacrosse as a varsity sport in 2014. The Oceanside girls became a club team last season.
RSU #13 includes Rockland, Thomaston, St. George, Owls Head, South Thomaston and Cushing.
Saturday the Mariners hosted the Lewiston varsity and JV along with the Camden Hills varsity and JV to their Play Day. The new club team from Winslow was originally scheduled to play, but were a late scratch.
The weather was cold and the up to 25 mile an hour winds caused it's own share of problems for the girls. Despite the less then perfect playing conditions the teams all had a good day of Lacrosse with everyone getting plenty of playing time.

The team is coached by second year coach Angie Vachon.
