FREEPORT — The Camden Hills varsity boys lacrosse team hit the road Saturday, May 11 for a contest against Freeport. 

By game’s end, Camden Hills had fallen 12-8. 

With the loss, the visiting Windjammers dropped to 1-6 on the season, though there was some positives to come from the contest. 

“This was the best overall game we have played all season long in the offensive, defensive, and midfield ends,” said Camden Hills head coach Harrison Rogers. 

Freeport held a 6-5 advantage at the halftime pause and a 7-6 advantage after the third quarter. 

The Freeport offense was paced by Sam LaRochelle (four goals, six assists), Evan Owen (three goals) and Steel Crawford (two goals, two assists). 

“The Freeport attack line is one of the best in the state of Maine. Andrew Orne, Dylan Hastings, Owen Cooper, and Taylor Wesbrock did a great job holding Freeport’s attack at bay, but we took too many penalties in the fourth quarter trying to win back the ball and Freeport’s attack capitalized on their chances,” commented Rogers. 

The Camden Hills offense was paced by Bryce Tyler (two goals, assist), Kieran McGrath (two goals, assist), Noaln Delehey (goal), Jackson Fitch (goal), Caellen Roberts (goal), Noah Quesnel (goal), Charlie Griebel (two assists) and Levi Guay (assist). 

“Our offense was dodging hard, drawing slides, getting the ball to the weak side for our secondary dodges, and finding open teammates with feeds off those dodges,” Rogers stated. The ball was moving after our initial dodge and we were patient and selective with our feeds and shots. With our young team this season, we have forced a lot of plays and have turned the ball over quickly in offensive possessions this season.” 

James Lynch recorded five saves in the goalie net for Camden Hills. 

“Our defense had a great three quarters of lacrosse,” Rogers stated. “This is the best the defense has played with individual and team concepts all season long. We were right there until the end of the game and that was because we held a very good offensive team at bay for three quarters.”

Up next for Camden Hills will be a road contest against Mount Blue on Tuesday, May 14 that was originally slated for April 24.
