ROCKLAND – Celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week with programs all week. This year, Maine Coastal Islands NWR with help from the Friends’ Group is celebrating the Centennial of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and National Wildlife Refuge Week with programs each day, starting October 8.

Chewonki is bringing their Owls of Maine program, including live owls to the visitor center on Monday, October 8 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. These presentations are for all ages. Make reservations by calling 594-0600 ext. 5.

On Tuesday, October 9, come see the movie, Saving Songbirds, and learn how some people are helping our songbirds out. Movie show times are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

On Wednesday, October 10, 6:30 p.m. Deputy Manager, Eddy Edwards, will present the 2018 nesting season seabird report. He also will tell you about the latest research that refuge biologists are using to learn more about our
    seabirds.

On Thursday, October 11, 6:30 p.m. come to the Rockland Public Library to watch the film, Winged Migration. Refuge volunteers will do an introductory talk about technology used in tracking birds. Co-sponsored with Rockland
    Public Library.

On Friday, October 12, 6:30 p.m. the Visitor Center will host a For the Birds Coffee House. Bring a song that mentions a type of bird, and sing it! We will see how many species of birds we can count before the end of the evening. Listeners are welcome to attend, too.

All events are free and will be at the Visitor Center, except the Thursday night movie, which will be at the Rockland Public Library.
