Zachary E. Elwell, obituary
ST. GEORGE – Zachary E. Elwell, 21, died unexpectedly on May 25, 2017, in South Thomaston.
Born in Rockport on Feb. 8, 1996, he was the son of Randall and Doris Springer Elwell. Zach attended St. George Elementary School before graduating from Oceanside High School in 2014. While in high school, Zach was employed with Superior Bait Company.
Zach loved being outside and on the water. Most recently he enjoyed the time he spent serving as sternman for Keith Miller. When he wasn't working, Zach still loved being outdoors. Hunting and fishing were favorite pastimes, and he loved spending time at camp in Addison.
His happy-go-lucky attitude made him easy to love and he loved everyone he met. He had a smile that could light up a room and a heart of gold. For several years he has served on the St. George Volunteer Fire Department, standing beside his dad as they gave of their time and resources helping others in need. He loved to tell a good joke and make others laugh.
He was a true Maine boy at heart, who loved hanging out with friends, wearing his Muck Boots and favorite old hat, and he would do anything for anybody. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
Predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Paul and Roberta Springer; Zachary is survived by his parents, Randy and Doris Elwell; his older brother, Andrew Elwell; his paternal grandparents, Kenneth Sr. and Carolyn Elwell; and his paternal great-grandmother, Sally Long, all of St. George; his aunts and uncles, Paul Springer of Rhode Island, Nancy Scott and her husband, Brian, of Brunswick, Ellen Dearborn and her husband, Lawrence, of Thomaston, Lyle Springer of Lewiston, Myron Springer and his wife, Donna, and Alan Springer and his wife, Janita, all of Waldoboro, Melanie Dennison and her husband, Allen, of Rockland, Melissa Elwell of Spruce Head, and Kenny Elwell Jr. and his wife, Patti, of Owls Head; many cousins; his best friend/cousin since birth, Ellery Montgomery, and other close friends, Ben Caron, Evan Myers and Ben Oaks Boynton, all of St. George; and a large circle of friends.
