'Working the Sea' on display at Kramer Gallery, Jan. 4 - Feb. 28

BELFAST — The Kramer Gallery of the Belfast Free Library will showcase a photo exhibit from the Penobscot Marine Museum, Working the Sea, images from the archives of National Fisherman. The exhibit will be on display January 4 through February 28, 2025.
"Fishing is fundamental, older than farming," said the Gallery. "We depend on it, but the large-scale drama — grueling work and exposure to the elements, shrewd gaming of natural systems, competition, navigating the tension between prosperity and limitation, and getting the product to consumers is invisible to most of us. Technology has revolutionized the industry but brought us to new impasses. The photographs of National Fisherman, a major player in the world of fisheries journalism, and its predecessor Atlantic Fisherman, bring that drama to light."
A recently published book by long-time National Fisherman contributor Michael Crowley reveals a multitude of these stories. This exhibit is inspired by his efforts.
The Kramer Gallery, located on the ground floor of the Belfast Free Library, 106 High St., is open during library hours. For more information call 207-338-3884.
