Windjammer football sails to second victory
ROCKPORT — The Camden Hills Windjammers football squad demonstrated to a friendly afternoon crowd Saturday, Sept. 8 under equally friendly blue skies they are not to be taken lightly in the 2018 season as they picked up where they left off last week on the road and opened the home season with a dominant 36-0 victory over Telstar.
Both team’s offenses ran 41 plays but it was Camden Hills blocking upfront which aided the efforts of its senior laden backfield in outgaining the Rebels on the ground 186 yards to 82, lead by Connor Hedstrom with 67 yards.
Rushing touchdowns were added by junior Brady Hedstrom and senior quarterback Spencer Johndro, who also completed a 54 yard touchdown pass to senior wingback Sam Hebert. The Jammer defense was again stout in the trenches which allowed many of the underclassmen to gain valuable experience once the lead reached 28-0 late in the second quarter.
"We are very happy with the boys and how we played as a team,” said Camden Hills head coach Jeremy Marks. “Next week will be a great game for us to see where we measure. We are looking forward to challenge."
Marks also provided an update on the Telstar quarterback's condition which contributed to the game being stopped with over four minutes on the clock: “Our group was relieved that Telstar's #20 walked off the field under his own power with his parents. The Jammer football family wishes him all the best."
The Jammers have now outscored their opponents 66-0 and appear poised for a true test of the team's overall development versus Freeport, also at Don Palmer Field. Kickoff will be Saturday, September 15 at 1:30pm. Freeport moved into Class E from Class C this season and bring a 1-1 record to town following a week one win over Boothbay (41-8) and a week two to Poland (43-12).
