THOMASTON — On September 1, the Williams-Brazier Auxiliary Unit 37 began a recruitment drive that will continue into 2021.

“Auxiliary Unit 37 has made good strides in increasing its membership since early 2019 but is still looking for wives and husbands to become Unit members,” said Post 37, in a news release.

Having husbands as members for the Auxiliary is a new change that was enacted during 2019 within the American Legion family, according to Post 37.

“This is partly due to the increase of female enlistees filling the ranks of all five military services,” said the Post. “Many military women have husbands, and new same-sex marriage laws have opened up a different form of the definition of what a spouse is within the military. All are eligible to join the American Legion Auxiliary.”

Are you the spouse of a military veteran? Do you wish to be part of an organization that is dedicated to providing aid and assistance to all veterans? Are you looking for an organization that supports local charities? Then the American Legion Auxiliary is just right for you.

All spouses of military veterans are invited to visit the Williams-Brazier Auxiliary Unit 37 at the Legion Hall in Thomaston. Talk with Auxiliary members. You may decide to become a member of Unit 37.

Located at 37 Watts Lane, in Thomaston, Unit 37 meets every first Thursday, April through October, at 6 p.m. From November through March Unit 37 meets every first Sunday of the month at 2 p.m. For more information please contact Membership Chairperson Rose Woodward at (207)542-7275.
