AUGUSTA — Since COVID-19 was introduced within Maine, the Maine CDC has consistently labeled some cases as “presumptive positive.” 

Presumptive positive cases were defined by the Maine CDC as “samples that test positive at non-governmental labs and are sent to HETL for validation.” 

As of Saturday, March 21, the Maine CDC will no longer be reporting presumptive positive COVID-19 cases, according to a social media post from Maine CDC Director Nirav D. Shah. 

Shah noted on social media the terminology is no longer required as the Maine CDC has completed validation of NorDx Laboratories in Scarborough.
