Wet, heavy snow, powerful winds, downed trees take out power to thousands in Midcoast
MIDCOAST – Knox andLincoln and Waldo counties are suffering widespread power outages as of 9 p.m., Tuesday, March 14. Firefighters are responding to down wires and trees crossing the roads, while plow crews are clearing the roads of heavy, wet snow. It’s a mess, and the coastal counties are feeling the brunt of the power outages. Knox County had 13,812 customers without power; Lincoln, 10,638; and Waldo, 1,946.
Appleton, Hope and Union are currently being hit the hardest, where all Central Maine Power customers in those three towns are without electricity.
Central Maine Power said at 9 p.m.: “High wind gusts that could exceed 55 mph will continue into the late evening. With weather conditions such as this, we have to consider the safety of our employees and may have to suspend some of the work in bucket trucks due to the severity of the conditions. While we wait for winds to subside, our crews focus on making downed wires safe and removing fallen trees. Our teams will be working through the night and into tomorrow to restore power to all customers impacted by this storm.”
At 8:40 p.m., Central Maine Power listed the following outages in Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties

ST GEORGE, 2,408 customers, 1,507 without power
THOMASTON, 1,694 customers, 282 without power
UNION, 1,512 customers, 1,512 without power
WARREN, 2,346 customers, 1,895 without power
WASHINGTON, 977 customers, 898 without power

In Lincoln County, Waldoboro has 3,153 CMP customers. As of 9 p.m., 2779 of them were without electricity.
In Waldo County, the towns of Liberty, Lincolnville, Montville and Palermo are the hardest hit.
In Montville, 437 customers out of 597 are without power; in Lincolnville, 212 out of 1,869; and in Palermo, 194 out of 1,075.
