Walker School 5K Walk-a-thon, fun run community fundraiser
Event Date
Saturday, October 17, 2026 - 10:00 am
The Walker Building Redevelopment Project is reviving the Walker School Walk-a-thon as a community fundraiser to help the town pay for building renovations. This 5K “Walker-thon” will also host a Fun Run for those wanting to run rather than walk. The event will take place (rain or shine) on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m., starting and finishing at Walker School, 33 West Main Street, in Liberty.
For many years, Walker students sought pledges from family and friends and walked to support their school.
"Now we are bringing back this long-standing tradition in order to support the renovation of this beloved historic landmark into a multi-purpose community hub," said Walker School Repurposing Committee, in a news release.
Alumni and community members are encouraged to call their family, friends, and form teams, according to the Committee.
Sponsor sheets are available for pick-up at: Lake St. George Brewery, Liberty Graphics, Liberty Library and Liberty Town Office.
Collect your sponsorships as cash or checks payable to Town of Liberty – Walker School. Prizes will be awarded to the highest fundraisers.
Runners may participate for a $20 registration fee, with cash only sign-ups the day of the event.
Registration and T-shirt sales will begin at 9 a.m.
The festivities will also include a bake sale and a raffle.

The Walker School Redevelopment Project seeks to preserve and repurpose the former Walker School into a multi-use municipal and community center serving Liberty and neighboring communities. Through grant funding, partnerships, tenant occupancy, and community support, the project aims to expand access to services, programs, and gathering spaces while preserving a valued historic landmark.
