Waldoboro police make additional arrests in burglary, home invasion
WALDOBORO — Waldoboro Police have arrested two more men in connection with an assault, home invasion and burglary that occurred last month at a residence on Friendship Road, according to a news release from Chief William Labombarde.
Virgil W. Cray Sr., 45, of Waldoboro, was initially arrested March 17 at approximately 10 p.m., after Waldoboro Police responded to the residence for an assault in progress.
Police on March 23 arrested Damian Benner, 41, of Waldoboro, and on March 24, arrested Keith Shaw, 45, also of Waldoboro, according to Labombarde.
Shaw was charged with felony burglary and felony aggravated assault. Benner turned himself into police March 23 and was accompanied by his attorney, William Avantaggi, of Damariscotta. Bener was also charged with felony burglary and felony aggravated assault.
The victim told police that about 30 minutes prior to the assault, an unknown man came to his house and he refused to let him enter. About 30 minutes later, the man returned a second time with two other men and they forced their way into the residence.
He said that the men knocked him to the floor and began punching and kicking him repeatedly. When officers arrived at the scene they observed several injuries on the victim that were consistent with an assault.
The victim was on the phone with Lincoln County Communications Center at the time of the assault.
Labombarde said the reason the three men assaulted the victim is not known at this time, but police have established it was not drug related.
Cray was released from the Twin Bridges Jail in Wiscasset on March 20 after posting $250 cash bail. His next court appearance is May 20 in Lincoln County Superior Court in Wiscasset.
Shaw will be arraigned May 10, also in Lincoln County Superior Court.
An initial court date has not yet been scheduled for Benner.
