Waldoboro police arrest pair for stealing checks, forgery
WALDOBORO — Waldoboro police arrested two Waldoboro residents for theft and forgery following an incident on March 29, according to a news release from Police Chief William Labombarde.
Waldoboro Police Officer Larry Hesseltine received a complaint from a Waldoboro resident that someone stole his checks and had forged and cashed almost $8,500 from his account. The victim told police that all of the stolen checks were written by the same two people he was familiar with.
One of the people the victim identified had forged a total of $6,320 worth of stolen checks and the other forged a total of $2,160, according to Labombarde.
Later that same day, police received a call from the First National Bank, advising them that a man was currently at the bank trying to cash more checks from the victim’s account. When Officer Hesseltine arrived on scene he took Shawn Sabin, 34, of Waldoboro, into custody without incident and transported him to the Waldoboro Police Department.
When Sabin was taken into custody he had two additional forged checks in his possession. One check was written out to himself for $1,200 and the other for $500.
Officer Chris Spear and Labombarde responded from the bank to an apartment at 45 Pleasant Street and took Norma Carter, 26, of Waldoboro, into custody without incident. Carter was also taken to the Waldoboro Police Department.
Labombarde said that throughout the entire process, both Sabin and Carter remained cooperative. They were subsequently charged with theft and forgery. Sabin was additionally charged with violation of a protection from abuse order.
They were both placed under arrest and transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
