Waldo County Sheriff's beat
BELFAST — The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office reported the following activity Nov. 2-8. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt.
Nov. 2
Sergeant Cody Laite responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Harriman Road in Swanville, where the operator of the vehicle reportedly abandoned their 2002 Chevy in a ditch and left the scene without reporting the accident. A passerby called the crash into police the following day. According to an accident report, the vehicle swerved for an unknown reason, striking a tree and causing disabling damage. When Sgt. Laite investigated the vehicle and was able to ascertain the owner. On Nov. 4, Sgt. Laite met with the registered owner of the vehicle, Corey Evans, who reportedly stated he had swerved to miss a deer, leading to the accident. The report notes that the driver’s condition at the time of the crash is unknown. Evans was issued a summons for failure to give notice of an accident by the quickest means.
Nov. 3
Jazman Nash, 30, of Rockland, was arrested for violating conditions of release and operating after habitual offender revocation on Route 1 in Belfast.
Morgan N. Mitchell, 25, of Belfast, was issued a summons for operating after suspension on Belmont Ave in Belfast.
Nov. 4
Corey V. Evans, 37, of Searsmont, was issued a summons for failure to give notice of an accident by quickest means in Swanville.
