LINCOLNVILLE — Residents in one Lincolnville neighborhood, near the town's Route 52 Grange Hall, were unsettled by noise as Waldo County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the area following two separate emergency calls Nov. 21.

Law enforcement first received a call from a Lincolnville resident who requested a welfare check for her adult son, whom she reportedly said was suicidal and drunk. A second call received a short time later was made anonymously and alleged that there had been gunfire in the same area.

This led responding deputies to have their shotguns at the ready in the event that the incident became dangerous, according to Lieutenant Matthew Curtis.

Sheriff Jeff Trafton said that after further investigation, the son in question was located and denied being intoxicated or suicidal, telling deputies he had been in Searsport at the time of the incident.

Deputies were unable to confirm that a gun had been fired as alleged by the anonymous caller.
