Vote Yes on Camden's Article 13
Article 13 allows the Town to finally secure a piece of property that’s been used as a path for 50-plus years by pedestrians and cyclists as a shortcut to town. The path’s land, which overlays a sewer and water connection easement, has been in private hands; the Town finally has an opportunity to buy it, to secure the path in perpetuity. The wording of the Article begins by asking if the voters shall “approve the acceptance of a quitclaim deed for 21 Cobb Hill Road…at a cost of $30,000….”
The path is approximately 250 feet long and connects Cobb Hill Road to Ames Terrace. Bridging over a creek, it enables people in the Cobb Hill area to connect more easily to town: to walk or bike to school, Megunticook Market, Tannery Park, and the Farmers Market.
And in the reverse direction, it allows dog walkers to access a peaceful neighborhood with virtually no cars: Cobb Hill Road and Woodcrest Avenue. The abutting neighbors have voluntarily been tending it, kindly mowing, clearing snow and even placing solar lighting along the path for walkers. They, too, are thrilled at the opportunity for the Town to secure it.
Creating this official path has been part of the Master Plan for the Camden/Rockport Pathways Committee for over 15 years. The Committee (and anyone who uses this trail) is over-the-moon excited that this path has the chance to become an official route. We strongly urge voters to Vote Yes.
