In preparation for writing this letter, I glanced back at my email correspondence with Valli Geiger.

Our very first exchange, from around 10 years ago, was about walkability in Rockland, which led to further conversation on civic engagement, environmental concerns, and of course — as the housing crisis deepened — housing and affordability.

In the years that I've known her, she has been a consistent advocate for sustainability (in all senses) and for the interests of those who have a tough time making ends meet in Rockland and in our region.

She was also way ahead of the curve in her recognition that our approach to land use regulation has contributed profoundly to both our housing and climate crises, and for this she deserves great credit.

I have watched her work in the Legislature with admiration and appreciation. She has excelled on the Labor and Housing Committee in particular and has developed a reputation as taking no nonsense from lobbyists and big business.

She has also worked tirelessly towards getting the state to revise its school funding formula, which unfairly raises Rockland's taxes, and even though this Herculean effort will likely take years to succeed, she is making real progress.

I plan to vote for Valli for State Representative, and I urge you to do so, as well.
