ROCKLAND — The Coastal Children's Museum is a small but exciting museum for children between the ages 2 – 9 years old and their families, according to a news release. The Museum offers an inclusive, relaxed and supportive environment for positive interaction with children and adults. There are a number of volunteer opportunities for people of all ages, including Junior Volunteers beginning at age 14.

Admissions and Front Office: Welcoming families to the Museum and sharing a few important procedures. The volunteer at the window takes and records admissions, and also needs to be knowledgeable about membership, other types of donations, and birthday party reservations. Volunteers in this position may also have to answer the phone, and pass messages to the staff.

Birthday Parties: The Museum offers "Arty Party" space for birthday parties on Saturday afternoons (after the Museum closes) and Sunday morning (before the Museum opens). Volunteers help during these parties.

Gulf of Maine Touch Tank: Working with the public and live animals requires patience, enthusiasm, knowledge, and professionalism on the part of the presenter. The Touch Tank is a main attraction, especially for younger visitors. The volunteer will be trained to give demonstrations by one of the staff members, and learn how to safely hold the animals, talk to the visitors about their names, where they live, and what they eat. Demonstrations are limited to approximately one hour.

Arts, Crafts, Science and Special Events: Volunteers who are good at crafts are needed for the Arty Party. Be the artistic guide showing the family how to complete the craft, what materials to use, and how to decorate it. The Museum also seeks volunteers with special talents geared toward younger children — workshops, science, special programs and events such as the June and October Family Fun Days.
