Vinalhaven boys, girls advance to Busline League Small School championships
VINALHAVEN – The Vinalhaven boys and girls hosted semifinal Busline League Small School pa=layoff games Wednesday.
The boys hosted Appleton and defeated them 58-34, while the girls hosted Bristol Blue defeating them 41-27.
Both teams will now play Saturday for the championship with the girls playing at 12:30 p.m. and the boys playing at 2 p.m.
The Vinalhaven boys who were undefeated this year will be playing for the third straight championship.
Boys Game
Vinalhaven 58, Appleton 34… The Vinalhaven boys took care of business Wednesday with their 12th win of the season.
The Vikings led after each quarter, 8-5, 22-15 and 32-25 at the end of three quarters. The Vikings outscored Appleton 26-9 in the fourth quarter to put the game on ice.
Scoring for the Vikings were, Cody Hamilton with a game high 22 points; Liam Thomas added 15; Keon Arey 10; Elijah Arey six; and Max Stanley five; Vinalhaven was 3-of-4 from the foul line and had three 3-pointers, all from Thomas.
For Appleton, Owen Hilt had 12 points; Morgan Ford eight; Jack Moody six; Kobe Gardner three; Ethan Ford and Nick Cammelieri two each; and Dylan Taylor one. Appleton was 3-of-6 from the foul line and had five 3-pointers, Hilt (4) and Gardner one.
Girls Game
Vinalhaven 41, Bristol Blue 27… The Vinalhaven girls advanced to the championship game Saturday with a solid win over Bristol Blue Wednesday at Vinalhaven.
Bristol led after the first quarter 12-7 and at the half 18-15. The Vikings picked up the pace in the third quarter and took a 31-22 lead into the final stanza where they were able to put the game away.
Scoring for Vinalhaven were, Bailey Wadleigh with 19 points; Gilleyanne Oakes 16; Deja Doughty four; and Kameron Cluff two. Vinalhaven was 5-of-18 from the foul line.
For Bristol Blue, Khole Poland had 11 points; Dorothy Hockis 10; and Cate Organ six. Bristol was 1-of-4 from the foul line and had two 3-pointers from Hockis.
The Vinalhaven girls will play No. 1 Woolwich who beat Hope yesterday for the Small School championship at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Camden-Rockport Middle School.
