Vehicle sideswipes Broadway residence during rain storm

ROCKLAND — Rockland police say hydroplaning is to blame after a pickup truck hit a house on Broadway, Tuesday, June 22, 2021.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., the homeowner of 305 Broadway, in Rockland, called Knox Regional Communications Center to report a loud crash that sounded as if a vehicle had hit the house.

A heavy evening rain storm had already coated roadways by the time the truck, which was headed southerly toward Park Street, lost control, spun around, and sideswiped the house, coming to rest in a northerly direction.

Two occupants were in the truck. Neither reported any injuries, according to police. A fire department crew responded to the scene and assisted with determining the structural integrity of the house.

This was the second crash for Rockland PD this evening. A couple of hours earlier, three vehicles collided near Maverick Street and Route 1. Two of the vehicles were able to pull into a parking lot before KRCC was notified of the crash. No injuries were reported during that incident as well.

At the end of May 2021, a vehicle hit a different house on Broadway during a dry, sunny day, following a two-vehicle crash.
