UPDATED: Washington car crash sends two men, one woman to hospitals
WASHINGTON — The driver of a Honda Sedan who was flown by emergency helicopter to a Lewiston hospital with serious injuries following a crash April 28 is reported to be in stable condition today, April 29, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. As of late afternoon, April 28, he was alert and conscious, said Knox County Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.
The investigation of the accident remains under way, he said.
Rescuers pulled a young man from beneath a car early in the morning April 28 following a single-vehicle crash on Route 17 in Washington.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, David Fish, 20, of Appleton, was driving east on Route 17 in a 2000 Honda Civic when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The car veered down an embankment before flipping over and slamming a power pole, said Chief Deputy Tim Carroll, in a news release.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. near the intersection of Roundhouse Road.
“At the scene, Fish was found under the vehicle as he had been ejected,” said Carroll. “He was transported by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center [in Lewiston] with serious injuries. The two other passengers in the car, Billy-Ray Denman, 21, of Appleton, and Paxton Mohney, 20, of Belfast were transported to Penobscot Bay Medical Center [in Rockport] with minor injuries.
Deputies Matt Elwell and Paul Pinkham responded along with Washington Fire Department with Union and Sterling Ambulances.
Just three days earlier, late Friday afternoon, April 25, another crash occurred on Route 17 in Washington.
The April 28 crash is being reconstructed by Maine State Police and forensic Mapping is being done by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation of the cause of the crash remains ongoing, said Carroll.
