Driver charged in Washington car crash that injured one of his three passengers
WASHINGTON —A 36-year-old Augusta man was injured in a crash Friday afternoon when a car sideswiped a sport utility vehicle, causing to roll over onto its roof.
Knox County Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash in Washington on Route 17 around 4 p.m. Chief Deputy Tim Carroll said that deputies first received a call of a vehicle being operating erratically, headed east on Route 17. Carroll said the caller described the car as a red Honda and also provided a license plate.
"The caller stated the car 'was all over the road.' A minute later the caller advised that the same vehicle had just been involved in a crash near the Fitch Road," said Carroll in a statement late Friday night.
When Deputy Matthew Elwell arrived on scene, he found the red 2008 Honda civic had gone off the road after sideswiping a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer and causing it to roll over.
"It appears that the driver of the red Honda Civic, Steven Wilson, 33, of Augusta, was operating too fast and did not maintain control of his vehicle into a corner," said Carroll. "Wilson crossed the centerline and sideswiped the Trailblazer."
Wilson and two juvenile passengers were not injured, but another passenger in his car, Edson Wilson, 36, also of Augusta, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Maine General Hospital in Augusta.
The driver of the Trailblazer, Dionne Barnett, 56, of Somerville, was not injured.
Washington and Jefferson Fire departments assisted at the scene and medical care was provide by Jefferson and Union emergency medical services.
Steven Wilson was summonsed for driving to endanger and failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle, according to Carroll.
