UPDATED: Missing St. George woman found deceased in Long Cove

    ST. GEORGE — A Maine Game Warden and a search team from the Maine Association for Search and Rescue located the body of Francine Laporte, 71, of Saint George at approximately, 10 a.m. today, Dec. 9. Laporte was found deceased, near her home, in the water on the shore of Long Cove, off of the States Point Road in Saint George.

    Her body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy will take place.  

    Laporte had been reported missing to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office by her husband, Paul, December 7 after she left her house on foot and never returned.

    Upon hearing a report of a missing person in the area, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office notified the Warden Service. 

    The Warden Service was assisted throughout the search by the Knox Sheriff’s Department, Maine Marine Patrol, Maine State Police and State Police Underwater Recovery Team, the Tenant’s Harbor’s Fire Department, the Maine Association for Search and Rescue, Maine Search and Rescue Dogs, US Border Patrol, Rockland Fire Department, United States Coast Guard and the Town of Saint George. 


    ST. GEORGE — The Maine Warden Service is working with the Knox County Sheriff’s office to locate Francine Laporte, 71, of Saint George. Laporte was reported missing by her husband, Paul Laporte, yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, Dec. 7). 

    According to the Warden Service, in a news release, Paul awoke to find that Francine was not home and after several hours of her not returning he went looking for her. Eventually Paul called Knox Sheriff’s office to report her missing.  

    Francine’s phone was left at the residence and it is believed she likely left the residence on States Point Road on foot.

    The Warden Service is asking anyone who may have seen a female walking in the area of States Point Road and/or River Road in Saint George on the early morning of Wednesday, Dec. 7 to call the Augusta State Police dispatch at 207-624-7076.

    It is not certain what she was wearing but believed to have a dark/black jacket, said MWS.
