“Turn on the Taps: Ensuring Clean Water for All” series returns in August
Last summer, a series of lectures and events offered to the Midcoast community provided an opportunity to learn about the local watershed about how it works and how it is sustained. This summer, a new series of events will helps better understand other issues of water quality, water rights and the importance of water quality in the production of foods.
“Turn on the Taps: Ensuring Clean Water for All” begins with a presentation on Water Privatization: A Dilemma for Maine Communities on August 3, at 10:30 a.m., in the Camden Public Library. The speaker will be Nickie Sekera of Community Water Justice and the Maine State Water Commission.
The second event on Water Quality and Quantity: The Farmer’s Friends will be held at Begin Again Farm, 1133 Finntown Road, Warren on August 22, at 10 a.m. Farmers Bill Pluecker and Chloe Maxmin will explain how water quality and quantity affects their farm products.
The third event, The Water Connection: Risks and Impacts of Metal Mining in Maine will occur on September 7, at 10:30 a.m., in the Rockport Opera House.
“During the week of September 23, we may be able to tour our local water utility company, the date and time are still being arranged,” said organizers, in a news release.
