Tom Jamrog talk: ‘Fostering Aging and Endurance Through Long Walks on Ancient Paths’
LINCOLNVILLE — Interested adventurers are encouraged to attend a free presentation, aided by audio visual material, Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m., at the Lincolnville Town Library.
Tom Jamrog recently completed Maine’s 100-Mile Wilderness from Monson to Katahdin, the northernmost, sparsely settled and last segment of the Appalachian Trail at age 74. He will discuss his own physical and mental preparation for the hike and share knowledge about adaptations in modern equipment that will assist aging hikers with their own experience of extended engagement in nature.
Jamrog likens his experience of repeated walks of “The Hundred” as a form of a natural Camino, where lodging is limited to tiny tents and communal three-sided shelters rather than Europe’s albergues, which are hostels specifically for pilgrims on the Way.
Jamrog will be also offering for sale copies of his book, In the Path of Young Bulls: An Odyssey on America’s Continental Divide Trail, a book which details his 2013 continuous five-month-long 2,500 mile wilderness trek.
